Windows are the Eyes into the Home
Saturday, September 27th, 2008Well everyone, we are into the fall season is upon us once again. The birds are still chirping, the flowers are fading but the house still needs cleaning (this is a year-round task)–the term ‘Spring Cleaning’ just sounds good). Fall is also the time to perform maintenance on your home that needs to be completed prior to the cold winter months and after the hot summer months. One example of a fall project is window replacement. Windows can dramatically affect the appearance of a home. If your windows are old, worn, off-track and not thermal pane/insulated, you could be throwing money “out of the window”, in the form of dollar$ spent on energy/utility bills. –One way to tell if you are a possible candidate for window replacement is if you have single pane windows and you have storm windows outside of the actual window– Fall is always a good time to look into replacement windows if your home is in need. Depending on the style you select– wood or vinyl and the number of windows you require to be replaced–replacement windows can range from relatively inexpensive to very pricey. New thermal pane windows are very energy efficient. You can choose from single hung or double hung(the sash on double hung open from both sides top and bottom) Low emissivity glass (low-e glass), heat absorbing glass and reflective glass, the latter two allow less solar light to enter. Think of new windows as botox for the home. The windows will give the face of your home a noticeably revived look. Also, if you are unable to financially replace your windows at this time, a good cleaning and a light coat of paint on the sills and shutters can make a noticeable and positive change in the appearance of your home.
TONYA’S TIP: Remember in a competitive market you want to make your house stand out. Potential buyers will remember a home with new windows(especially if your home is an older home), buyers are very conscious of energy $aving items like replacement windows.
